Time to Get Serious

Even though I say this every year, I swear this time I’m serious about posting regularly. I have things I do and I like to narrate them to people that aren’t reading. It makes me feel important.

Since 2020 turned out to be a shit show, I’m hoping that 2021 will be more productive. I’ve already started on a goal and just need to maintain it now. Since I really got into arting late in 2020, I’ve decided to open up an Etsy store and try to peddle my creations. It’s not going to be a job, and I’ve walked into it knowing that. BUT, it is absolutely wonderful to see a sale when I check my messages. There is a link on the right to it if you’re interested in seeing what I have available.

Along with the arting, I’ve decided to create a Book of Shadows for my kitchen witch self. There needs to be a record of the crazy that is my kitchen.

Which means I need to have a book to leave all those recipes in and low and behold my husband bought me the perfect journal for it at Christmas. So far, I’ve gotten the cover page done. Now I just need to start adding content. I’m not Wiccan or even pagan. In fact, quite the opposite, but I realized that there are lots of things that I do in a kitchen and in my home that make me a bit witchy. Once I looked into it a little, I realized that I’m a kitchen or green witch. A Book of Shadows seemed like the next logical step. AND, it’ll let me get some creativity out of my brain.

A junk journal is also a pretty adventurous idea but it’s something I’d at least like to start this year. At some point. Are you seeing a theme here? Lots of art and creativity and I’m kinda excited about the creativity going on in my brain lately.

I’ve also decided to start working on calligraphy of some form. Either brush lettering or true calligraphy. It’ll help with my intentions with the art, the junk journal and the book of shadows, so two birds, one stone. I’m all about making life easier by having ganging goals up together.

As the year progresses, I’ll be sure to share my arting. I’m actually super excited for this year and what I might be able to accomplish.

What are your goals for the year? Were you able to achieve any of your 2021 goals?

Skipping 2019

Like the rest of the world, I’m going to pretend like 2019 didn’t happen.  It’s not that it was particularly a bad year for me (it wasn’t), but it just seemed to ZOOM by so fast that it feels fair to say it doesn’t count.  Does that mean I get to say I’m still 36?  Probably not, but that’s okay.

So that leaves me with 2020.  Starting out, it’s not horrible.  Yet.  Scratch that!  I’m not a pessimist and won’t start now.  This is a big year, and I’ve got some even bigger goals, but publishing again isn’t one of them.  Phew!

In February, were she still alive, my grandmother would be 100 years old.  She was the light of my life as a child.  The best of the best.  I’ve never met someone with as pure a heart in my life.  It seems only appropriate to have a goal that would celebrate her and her life for the ENTIRE year.  That’s right.  All year.  Every month.  Every week.  Every day.  Celebrating!  Yes, that sounds like a lot of whiskey, but I’m up for the task.  It’ll be grand.

Celebrating isn’t my only goal for the year.  I’ve also got some art related ones, and I want to learn short hand.  Don’t ask.  I have no idea why, but it was one of my notes from last year.  A possible goal for 2020 and I wrote it down.  Might have been drunk, might not.  So it’s officially a goal.  Short hand.  Does anyone even use that anymore??

There’s the obvious goal of losing weight and getting healthier, but whiskey.  And bread.  Oh, and cheese.  And pasta.  And cheese WITH pasta.  It’s a doomed goal from the beginning.

Writing is a big one.  I wanna write more often and share it too.  It almost makes no sense to write stories with my fountain pen in my leatherbound journal that doesn’t leave my desk.  Almost.  Those of you with doubts need to go out and get a fountain pen and a leatherbound journal and try that shit.  But, back on task, I’m going to get up the nerve to share in an online community again.  I’m not always the biggest fan of that, but if I want to improve, I need to share.  So it’s happening!

And finally, I want to write my ones all European and fancy like with the little swish in the front so it almost looks like a seven.  For the record, my reasoning behind this is not malicious or deviant at all.  I will remain totally calm when people can’t read my numbers the right way and all my writing is done in short hand.  Muahahahaha!  You should know, that from a very early age, my daughter (she’s fourteen now) has called me a villain.  In fact, just the other day, she texted me that I’m a bully and I told her she spelled V-I-L-L-A-I-N wrong.  And apparently, that’s why I can’t have nice things.

So here’s to an awesome 2020 and trying to actually update this shit like I keep telling myself I need to!

What’s On In 2018

Well, 2017 was a slightly busy year as I decided to set actual writing goals for myself and I achieved them!  Up until last year, I’d always been a casual writer with no end goal in sight.  With my success of finishing a novel and publishing an anthology of short stories, I’m starting to take my writing more seriously.

With that said, 2018 is going to be even more productive!  I want to edit the novel I finished last year and publish a second anthology.  The first half of my year is going to be editing, editing, and more editing.  I also need to find and commission a few artists to create art for inside the anthology.

If I’m able to finish editing the novel, I’d also like to begin preparing that for publishing as well, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself.  There will be plenty of rewrites to finish and another round of editing before it’s ready to start prepping to be published.

And that’s not even all of it.  I’m also participating in a few lit and artist collaboration contests.  It’s exciting to work with an artist on a project together because I get to see a visualization of my writing.  Not having to pay for it is pretty awesome too.

That’s what I have in mind for 2018.  I hope it’s as productive as 2017 and I’m able to achieve every goal I set for myself.
